Rather ironically, in my final post here on Spring Cleaning I want to address that it does not end!

What does that mean?

When we let things pile up until Spring, it makes the task so much more daunting when we do finally tackle it. However, if we keep plugging away at the task on a consistent basis, it takes less time and effort.
Also, I’ve found that when it comes to starting or stopping something, many of us are waiting for the “right” time, but when is that, really?

We say we’ll start exercising in the New Year or in time to tone up for swimsuit season.
We say we’ll stop eating junk food tomorrow or next week.
Why wait? If it’s important enough to do some day, it’s important enough to start today!
And once you start, it’s important to keep going, otherwise you’re spending a lot of energy stopping and starting. Plus, if we’re talking about eating healthy, for example, then if you stop “just this one time,” it makes it that much easier to get off course…and that much harder to get back on.

Why is consistency so important?

I love the quote “Inch by inch is a cinch, yard by yard is hard.”

When there’s consistency, it becomes easier. It becomes a habit. And the key to consistency is commitment. If you’re committed to something, you make it an important part of your life.
Personally, I find it easier to commit to something simple than something hard, so that helps me to create & sustain habits.
And I create and sustain habits in order to achieve my goals. However, sometimes goals get in the way.

How can your goals get in the way?

While goals may be helpful in giving you a target, the problem is that when you hit the target, you may think you’re done. But if you look at getting to a healthy body weight, once you’re there, you have to continue doing the things that got you there in order to stay there.
If you don’t, you run the risk of quitting all the good habits you started and gaining weight back…and probably more pounds, too!
When you think about it, your goals should not be destinations – they should be a way of life. Consistency and commitment are the keys.

What can you do?

  • Start now.
  • Keep on going. It’s OK if you get off course. It happens and you can steer yourself back on track.
  • Know your purpose, not just your goals, and follow your purpose with passion.

Most importantly…Enjoy the Journey…

It’s a motto that’s important to me, because if you’re not enjoying the journey, you’re missing out on life. Life itself is not a destination; it is a journey…both inside and outside of you.
How will you enjoy your journey?
