If you’re like most people, you are probably following the mantra, “Get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready…” instead of “Get ready, get set, go!” The reason many times is that the Go part of the phrase is a risk.

What’s the Problem with Risk?

What I see very often at my live events and in my coaching is people who know what to do, but they don’t do what they know. When we explore why, we determine that there’s a perceived risk in taking action that overrides the potential benefit of taking that same action.
So the key is to get to the point where the benefit outweighs the risk, and then there’s no longer any reason for sabotage. The problem is that we tend to live in our comfort zones, and anything outside of those zones equates to risk. Thus, we’re continually facing risk when we want to do something we’ve never done before.
Now here’s where I differ from those who say, “It’s time to get comfortable being uncomfortable”. In my opinion, it’s time to expand your comfort zone. How do you do that? By successfully surviving a risk.
It’s important to understand that whatever you’re trying to avoid by avoiding risk, is usually what you end up creating. For example, if you’re trying so hard to avoid failure that you’re not succeeding, then you end up feeling like a bigger failure. So take that risk, and see how freeing it can be.
