If you’ve ever heard me talk before, you may remember me comparing people to a couple of birds – chickens and eagles.
Chickens are flightless birds – they cluck and they hang out in coops. They are useful in that they lay eggs and provide meat (for those who chose to eat it). But most people would not consider chickens elegant, graceful, or inspiring. I refer to average people – those who accept life and have forgotten how to dream and go after what they really want – as chickens.
And then there are eagles – majestic birds, in my opinion, who soar high in the sky with beauty and grace, who see what they want from a great distance and go for it with gusto. I refer to people who are living life according to their terms – people who have dreams and are going after them – people who soar above so many others – as eagles. It’s good to be an eagle, and there’s nothing wrong with being a chicken – they’re different lifestyles and they’re for different people. The funny thing I’ve noticed though, is that sometimes a person who’s a chicken gets tired of being a chicken. Instead of hanging out in the chicken coop, she’d rather be flying high in the sky, like an eagle. So what does she do? Often, she’ll ask other chickens how to become an eagle – or maybe just how to fly. They don’t know. If they did, they’d be doing it themselves. What she should do is venture out and find an eagle or two – then ask them how to fly.
That’s often how people are. We hang out with our friends and family (maybe) and when we realize our life is not as we want it – we complain. Once that gets old, we start to ask questions about how we can change things. Well, the other “chickens” you’re hanging around don’t know. They may even feel threatened by your questions as they realize the possibility of you flying the coop, so to speak, if you do get the answers you’re looking for. So they may even get in your way as you venture out to try and find the answers. Don’t listen to them. Listen to your heart – or your gut – or whatever it is inside of you talking to you – urging you to seek out how you can get more out of life – how you can be more than a chicken.
You may notice that when you see an eagle soaring – often it is alone. That’s a reality for many people who have chosen to soar to new heights – to go after their goals and dreams. But we are people, and there are more “eagles” out there – we just have to find them. Where do we find them? At places where we go to improve ourselves – like seminars offered by the likes of Jack Canfield, Tony Robbins, Hale Dwoskin, and more. You can also find them on the phone on my Eagles Club calls. There are lots of them out there – and eagles love to support each other. We love to see other eagles soaring toward their goals. It’s also symbolic for why you see eagles soaring along – because we all have (or should have) our own goals and dreams that we’re going after. So our paths are not the same as other eagles’ paths – but we often cross each other at different points along the journey.
So I hope this has helped explain my bird analogies a little more – and I hope you realized that you’re an eagle! Take off the chicken suit if you haven’t already and spread your wings and fly!
