Do you ever wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” Have you set goals as you’ve been taught, only to fall short time and time again? Are you ready to hear the truth…finally? I’ve been where you are. I used to set world class goals, but always failed to achieve them. Then I finally learned what I was doing wrong! I wasn’t engaging the most powerful goal getting tool I owned…my unconscious mind.
So many people set goals that focus on what they do not want. For example, ‘I don’t want to be broke,’ or ‘I don’t want to be fat’ are two very common desires. In the business world, one may focus on, “I don’t want to fail.” Everyone, regardless of their industry, profession, company, and position, may feel the same thing, “I don’t want to experience rejection,” which can paralyze your business.
All this focusing on what you don’t want feeds you mind exactly that. Your unconscious brain is extremely powerful, but it does not understand negative words. So when you say, “I don’t want to lose this sale,” your unconscious mind hears “I ___ want to lose this sale.” And that is often what happens as your brain works to find what it thinks you want…losing the sale. Whatever you focus on, you energize and attract. Even more, you consciously want to make the sale, so it becomes a struggle between the conscious and unconscious mind.
You may think you’re safe with the thought “I don’t want to experience rejection.” since the brain hears, “I ____ want to experience rejection.” But your brain also works to keep you safe – both physically and emotionally. So if you fear “rejection” and think that is what you will get by going out and sharing the business opportunity you have, then your brain will actually help you avoid rejection – the opposite of your goal. And you won’t make those calls to follow up with your leads, or talk to people you encounter during the day, but you will focus on doing something else – like exercising, organizing, or even just watching TV.
With all of this said, there may be some people out there wondering, “Who writes their goals with negative words?” Truth is, most people do write their goals properly – “I want to weigh 135” versus “I don’t want to be fat.” But what is it you are thinking? Maybe you don’t write your goals with negatives, but if you’re thinking it then you might as well not write them at all. The only thing that really matters is how you hold the goal in your mind, and it has to be held in a positive light. It’s important to believe you can achieve.
So let go of the negatives, erase your fears, and you will be better equipped to achieve your goals and dreams. The next step is action…you cannot achieve anything if you do not take the steps that are required to get you where you want to go.
