The amazing couple behind Synergy Internet Marketing is Janet & Landy DeField, our technology, website, internet & marketing coaches.
I was honored to interview them and excited to share their insights with all of you.
We set the stage with mindset, and Landy pointed out “marketing anything, in it’s simplest sense, is making friends out of strangers.” Janet added that while it can seem so complex, it’s really as simple as the golden rule – treating people how you want to be treated. With that established, we jumped right in to technology tools to help.

Tech Tools to Help
Janet & Landy highly recommend all the programs Google has to offer (all for FREE!):
  • Gmail – Access your email anywhere over the internet, and see a productivity boost when you use filters & labels. Plus, their spam filters are top notch!
  • Google docs – Collaborate on documents, spreadsheets & more very simply & easily.
  • Google calendar – Store all your calendar information, share it with others, and utilize toosl such as text appointment reminders.
  • Google reader – Read all the blogs and websites you like to follow in one place! Simply click on RSS feed and add the site to your google reader account.
For safety & security purposes, Landy & Janet also recommend using Firefox for your internet browser, as it offers greater security features.

Talking Social Media – Facebook Focus
Did you know Facebook has more traffic than google? Over 400 million users every day!
Facebook is a place to network that costs nothing, which is a tremendous benefit in today’s recession plagued economy.
So what is Facebook? It’s a place to go make friends with your friends’ friends.
Find out the step by step details of how to sign up and use Facebook on Landy & Janet’s BlogTalk radio shows. No cost! https://www.blogtalkradio.com/getsynergy
On Facebook, it’s important to be aware of what to post and what not to post:
  • Don’t just try to sell your business!
  • Facebook users are looking for fun, so have fun. Rule of thumb on “fun” – ask yourself, “are you going to be ashamed if your mom saw it?”
  • Facebook is a place to build relationships, create connections – so be real and be yourself, authentic.
  • Don’t just be interesting, be interested! Ask questions, post fun things, quotes, and things that contribute to the community.
  • Remember, quality is more important than quantity, and consistency is key.
Twitter Talk
  • Twitter – where you go to make friends out of absolute strangers.
  • Twitter is a micro-blog = really small log of activity on a website. As Janet put it, “Concentrated goodness in small posts.”
  • Biggest influence is replying to messages or posts from others.
Facebook and Twitter is where the people are. It is not a fad. It will change & evolve, but will continue to be a big presence in life.
We only scratched the surface, but it’s a great start. Hope you enjoyed the tech tips! ~SS
