Now before you go thinking you have to face dust & cobwebs and whatever else might be lingering over your head in your house, you have to know that I have yet to venture into my home’s attic. And I have no plans to go there in the near future! But I have ventured into the attic of my body – my mind, and it is one place I highly recommend you spend time cleaning out this spring season.

What’s in Your Attic?

Much like the attics in our houses, our minds end up being a place where we pile things – things we no longer use, things we want to keep because they have emotional attachments, things that are simply out of season and we may want to bring them back out when the season is right.

When was the last time you looked?

I know it was 32 years before I ventured into my mind to do some serious cleaning – to figure out why I had this yearning for approval and acceptance, but never felt like I deserved it. I was finally ready to face my fears, and overcome the obstacles in my way.
Our minds are powerful places, and they can hold so much more than we realize – which can be both good and bad. The bad is that I learned the obstacles I was facing were ones I created long ago – at about age 6 – and all along the way, I searched for clues to keep holding on to and reinforce that obstacle. The good is that because I created it, I could un-create it, too, and with a little help, that’s exactly what I did.

Now is the time for Spring Cleaning!

So this spring season, I encourage you to look into your own mind – especially the subconscious part that is usually hidden from us – and see what might be getting in your way, keeping you from living the life of your dreams.
The subconscious mind is something we generally only tap into when we’re dreaming, meditating, or simply acting on habit. It’s not where we live most of the time – in conscious thought – but it’s what sustains our souls. And believe it or not, any of those obstacles it created were done to keep you safe – but that’s another topic for another time.

One step at a time…

The first step is to find your dream. Many of us stopped dreaming in middle school, and started settling for a life that was “good enough”. If you had no obstacles – none at all – what would your life look like? Go up into your attic, your mind, and allow yourself to go through what’s there. So many things have been stored up in your lifetime – whether it’s been long or short. Sort out what’s no longer serving you and you’ll uncover some hidden treasures, too. Dream about what it is you want in your life; the things, the experiences, and most important, the feelings you desire to have – how you want to live.
Share your dreams with me now, and next time we’ll talk more about how to overcome the obstacles in your way.
