Thank. You. God.

That moment changed the course of my life in a big way. I realized first hand that we don’t know when our last breath is going to be and I made a sacred promise to myself (which has me in tears right now as I write this) that I would live a life of excellent, never settling for mediocrity.

But the decision wasn’t enough. For the next 19 years, even though I gave everything I has to everything I tried, I still struggled. I never achieved my potential in anything that required my achievement, outside of school.

I struggled on the baseball field. I struggled on the basketball court. I struggled in multiple businesses. I struggled in network marketing. I struggled with my weight.

Until Nov 17, 2005.

I was at a business event, given the common task of writing my 90 day goals I wanted to achieve in my business. Same as usual – make $100k like all the testimonials I heard.

But this time, it was different. When I went to share my goals with my partner, I couldn’t talk. I could barely breathe. I couldn’t stop crying.

Luckily for me, there was a life coach in the room who took me outside into a crowded hotel lobby and paced me through a visualization process to confront my deepest limiting beliefs that were getting in my way.

I didn’t even realize until that moment that all of my results were being sabotaged by my internal belief of “I’m not good enough”. No wonder why I always seemed to never reach my peak potential. I didn’t believe it was possible.

That 15-minute process changed my life in every way possible. I felt lighter. People noticed visible differences in me that they couldn’t understand. My wife even asked, “What happened to you?”

What had happened was… A neurological transformation.

My emotions shifted. My body shifted. My thoughts shifted. My fears melted. My courage was reignited. My dreams got brighter and closer.

I started taking action in ways I never had before. Committed action. It was almost weird to me. I was running on energy I hadn’t experienced ever before.

But I didn’t do it alone. It was around this time that I asked myself two very powerful questions…

“How much longer am I going to try to succeed on my own, when I’ve proven to myself over and over again that I can’t do it by myself?” That one brought me to my knees. And then…

“How many people have I NOT HELPED because I can’t get out of my own way?” That one caused me to take action like never before.

I hired my first coach and borrowed her expertise, knowledge and belief when I didn’t have enough of my own to achieve my goals.

Soon, my results REALLY started to change. In the first 18 months, I generated over $300,000 from scratch in my brand new speaking & coaching business.

As a teacher and probation officer, I was used to $40k years, not $40k months. But I liked it. A lot.

Money was coming in and money was going out. Fast. Big. It was intoxicating for me. Finally, I was winning.

Then, my ego got the best of me. After those first 18 months, I decided I wanted to be big time. Play with the big boys. Make a million dollars.

18 months later, I was in bankruptcy court, with my wife at my side. The shame was deeper than I’ve ever experienced and nearly unbearable. I was never actually suicidal, but I also didn’t really care if I lived or not.

I thought my family would be better off with the proceeds of my life insurance policy than for me to continue letting them down.

But there was a moment when I sat in the playroom of my soon-to-be-lost home and had these words come to me… “I don’t know why or how but there will be a time that you are grateful for every minute of this misery.”

In that moment, I remembered my sacred promise to never settle. So I got up of the floor, with a slightly different energy. Slightly. Nothing gigantic, but enough to take a little bigger step forward.

Over the next several years, having learned the value of money, business and most importantly myself, I was able to right the ship. There’s something very powerful about having all your credit cards taken away from you… you have to learn business principles real fast!

I know I became a much better father, much better husband, much better businessperson and much better leader during the second 18 months of disaster compared to the first 18 months of fast success.

Shortly after, I started mentoring a few people who wanted to be coaches. I found myself telling them how to avoid the huge mistakes I had made that led to bankruptcy. I learned that my biggest mistakes were actually what made me the most valuable to these people.

And when I saw people start to create their businesses in a healthy way and get their message into the world, I felt a joy inside that was overpowering for me. It was like helping people give birth to their dreams.

I was hooked. And so here we are today. I have a passion for getting into the ring with people to help them deal with the ups and downs of creating and building a personal development business.

It’s never easy. But it is totally worth it. And I’ll be here my your side when it gets tough.
