When I found out it was National Two Different Colored Shoes Day, it reminded me of a day when my daughter was 3.  She had decided to wear 2 different shoes to school, and we let her.  The only stipulation was that she had to take one to make a matching set, just in case her feet started to hurt.

So when we dropped her off at preschool that day, one of the teachers commented on her colorful shoes.  Specifically, she said, "I wish I could wear two different shoes."

The first thing that came to my mind is – You can!

Next, I wondered, "why does she think she can’t?"

And I realized that people are often so caught up in what others might think about them that they restrict themselves.  But in reality, what we think others might think is often not what they are thinking at all!

I mean, if she liked the two different shoes, chances are other people would like them, too.  And while some people would certainly think how strange it is, there are several others who would take note and commend you for it.

So my advice is – be yourself.  Do you.  And wear two different shoes if you want.  At least today you’ll have an excuse!
