How many times have you heard “Don’t take it personally” or “Every NO gets you closer to a YES” or “They’re not saying no to YOU”?The reason these statements rarely help anybody get over a fear of rejection is because you can’t solve an emotional problem with a logical solution.
As an entrepreneur, you’re going to face rejection more than most. But it doesn’t have to stop you from achieving your dreams. You can actually use it to grow your confidence!

For starters, try taking yourself out of the offer. For example, don’t offer your product or ask someone if they are interested in your service, or hearing about your opportunity. Simply ask people if they’re interested in a product to help them reduce wrinkles or a service that can improve their follow-up, or whatever benefits you’re selling. That will generally break the personal connection in your mind.
There will still be times, however, when you do get personally attacked – like when people tell you to stop dreaming, get a real job, or that you’ll never be successful.
When this happens, don’t try to pretend it didn’t! Instead, take a good look at the source of the comment. Most likely, this “rejection” is coming from someone who’s not living the life they want, much less the life YOU want – so why would their opinion even matter?
Even if it comes from a loved one, you can change the feeling of rejection to empowerment by realizing that you must be on to something special if mediocre thinkers are attacking you and inviting you to quit! They’re usually trying to protect you the best way they know how.
To drill deeper into the concept of emotional control, understand that there are no inherent meanings in anything. You get to decide what everything means. It’s a simple 3-step process:
1. Stuff happens
2. You place a meaning on what just happened
3. Your meaning determines your emotions
If you give a disempowering meaning to an event, then negative emotions will follow. But if you give an empowered meaning, positive emotions are the only option. It’s actually real simple, but it does require consistent practice.
This may sound way too easy or too good to be true, but trust me, this is how our minds work. The key is to slow down the process so you feel like you have more control over your emotions as you consciously determine meanings.
You are 100% in control of the meanings that you place on what happens to you.
*IMPORTANT: This concept works for everyone in all circumstances, regardless of your past or current experiences. And if you’ve been the victim of some type of crime and/or abuse, it is absolutely critical for you to master this skill, otherwise your emotions will continue to victimize you forever.
