Drama. We all have it in our lives, but how much of it depends on how we respond to it. Some people seem to thrive on drama. I mean, we wouldn’t have the phrase “Drama Queens,” if they didn’t exist, right?
The question I have for you is: How do you handle drama?
When it comes to your MK business, there’s no doubt potential for drama. When women get together, it tends to happen. So when it does, what happens to you? Does it drain you? Or do you use it to drive you?
Understand that nobody can create drama for you – it’s always an inside job. Much like pressure, it’s created by your thoughts about what’s happening around you, not what’s actually happening around you. If you decide people are disrespecting you or taking advantage of you, the result will always be drama. But if you decide that everything happens FOR you instead of TO you, drama can’t be created.
Obviously, drama can be a big drain on your life and business, because it can cause you to focus on something other than your goals. It can distract you, deter you, and derail you, until you’re so far in the midst of the drama you don’t even know how you got there. But there is a way out…if you’re willing to do things differently.
The way out is to use drama as a driving force to change. Decide not to give in to it and instead, see the drama for what it is – a drain on your time and energy. If it doesn’t serve you, don’t create it. It’s that simple. Then choose to drive yourself in a different direction.
Let’s look at an example: there’s a unit meeting where guests are coming and someone brings a guest who happens to be somebody you know, and that person knows you are in MK, too, they just didn’t know you’d be at this meeting. What do you do?
You’ll probably hold it together for the meeting, because you want to support your MK sisters and enjoy the evening as much as possible. But beyond that, you have a choice:
Do you dive into the drama and wonder why she would attend a MK meeting with someone other than you? Do you start to think back on all the times you could have and should have invited her yourself? Perhaps you recall times you did invite, but the invitation was not accepted. Maybe you call someone else to talk about how you can’t believe what just happened. Do you end up feeling drained and contemplate quitting the business? Or end up resenting the person who invited your friend?
OR
Do you use the drama to drive you? Do you fuel the fire for your dreams with determination to not let that happen again? Do you take the time to call your friends and share your dreams and ask them to support you? Do you call up your current customers and ask how you can serve them, and invite them to join you for a facial – maybe a new look for the new season? Do you go out and meet new people so you can share the beauty of this business you’ve decided to use to change your life?
It’s the same situation. The same recipe for drama. But the choice is yours: will you let it drain you or drive you?
What I have learned from past mistakes is that you must move on. There is no sense in causing drama to the other MK girl or yourself. Less time spent trying to “convince” someone and more time spent on moving on to the next potential client. If you do not do this, your anger only hurts you.
