What is a True Breakthrough?

A true breakthrough is a shift in your perspective or awareness that allows you to get rid of roadblocks and create sustaining success.

A true breakthrough is important because we only get one shot in life, and without that breakthrough, you’re probably settling for a life of less than you desire.

If true breakthroughs are so important, you might wonder why more of us don’t have them. I believe it’s because of 5 factors that keep us stuck.

What Keeps Us Stuck?

  1. Focusing on surface level stuff and logical solutions prohibits our ability to have a true shift in perspective or awareness. And trying to logically fix an emotional problem never works – at least not long term – and ultimately creates more frustration. You have to shift your habits.
  2. Being emotionally drunk also gets in the way of true breakthroughs. You become emotionally drunk when you attend seminars or enter into environments out of the normal day to day routine. It happens when you’re somewhere you feel safe, and there are no fears and no obstacles. Thus, you’re more likely to commit to things you normally wouldn’t because of the lack of fear. When you leave the safe environment, you generally don’t follow through on the commitments – commitments you never would have made except that you were emotionally drunk.
  3. Focusing on the symptoms and not the cause is another factor, because it elicits a quick fix mentality that doesn’t address the real issue. It’s important to know that our learned behaviors have a root cause, and we have to find that cause to truly change the behavior & make it last.
  4. If your purpose, values and environments are not aligned, it’s hard to create any sustaining changes. When you know why you’re here, what’s important to you, and how all your environments impact your life, you have a much greater chance of success.
  5. Failing to address your identity can also keep you stuck. Your identity consists of who you are, the thoughts & beliefs you have, and all of your experiences. You cannot create and sustain a new habit that doesn’t match your identity, so you have to shift your identity in order to shift your habits – which is how you ultimately make changes.

What are the 3 Phases of a True Breakthrough?

If you’ve been trying without success to create a sustaining change, you haven’t yet experienced a true breakthrough. Know that it does take time and it does require effort…and that it’s all very worthwhile!

Here are the 3 phases of a true breakthrough:

  1. Identify the REAL blocks – the fears and limiting beliefs that create all the surface level sabotage.
  2. Eliminate the CAUSE of the blocks.
  3. Set yourself up to succeed by renewing your identity, replacing your habits, and creating new environments.
